I really don't understand this speech. Some of the best speeches of a campaign are concession speeches, Gore and Kerry's concession speeches come to mind (then again that might be why they lost). I don't think this counts as that. Although I do think of the three speeches last night Hillary had the hardest job. McCain's and Obama's speeches were both very good. It seemed like Hillary's speech was made to bide time for her. We'll see. Though it was also disheartening to see that there were no olive branches offered out in this speech. I am curious to hear what other people thought.
Also, I think Isaac Chotiner is right. MSNBC needs to stop being such homers for Obama.

Not surprisingly, I mostly agree with Russert: she laid out the work she's done, the causes she believes in, her triumphs, honored Obama for his run (not his win), and left the door open for any possibility. It seems to me she won't concede until she has some assurance from Obama about her role in his campaign and/or administration. I think that's a fair point -- she's fought long and hard and isn't going to just step aside, as has been made clear by now. She wanted to show Obama tonight that she still has passionate supporters that will rally around her if he brushes her aside. I think that's one of the reasons why she chose NY -- her support there was and still is strong.
More than anything, I think she intended to show Obama that he has to sit down with her and offer her a substantial role in his campaign and/or administration. Perhaps it's the VP spot, a Supreme Court promise, who knows (hopefully not the VP spot). But I think she wants Obama to know she's not going to just step aside.
